Like most of these, I am probably showcasing my simpleness, but nevertheless:
Yankee Doodle went to town
Riding on a Pony;
He stuck a feather in his hat
And called it maccaroni.
Eric and I had always wondered about this odd song. We received a card in the mail from my mom for Jasper's birthday. She is crowned queen of random cards. I don't know where she bought it, but it had a print of a man from the 1770s with the title "Farmer Maccaroni". Renewed interest encouraged us to look on the back of the card, where we were delighted to find this explanation:
A maccaroni was used to describe a wig or hairpiece worn, usually by those of a specific fashion preference.
