It's been a little bit, and quite a lot has happened- surgery, travels, holidays, more travels. Instead of boring you with cramming it all into one post, I'll stretch it out over several. First up:
Jasper's Surgery.
Prayers really helped. Our sweet little boy was healthy and ready for his eye surgery on December 20th. The goals of the surgery were to remove a cyst above his right eye, remove the muscles from both eyes and reattach to straighten the eyes- which will hopefully encourage his brain to use both eyes simultaneously.
We are so blessed to have family living within 45 minutes of Johns Hopkins, giving us a wonderful place to stay and comfort having loved ones around. My sister and her family also came in to watch Mason.
The surgeries, we are told, went well. The surgeons accomplished all they had hoped for. Now we wait for results. It can take up to a month for the muscles to adjust. As it was so close to Christmas, most of his operating team informed us they would not be around for the week after the holidays. His post-op infection check up (which should have been a week after) was scheduled for two days after.
Jasper woke up from surgery in some kind of pain. Poor thing just could not contain himself. If you could have seen him, I think you would have understood. He looked like he lost a boxing match. The nurses quickly came in and put him back to sleep for a few hours. Second time waking went much smoother. At this point, his right eye was swollen shut and we could watch the blood draining in it and the bruise appearing. Several hours later, we were discharged.
We headed home that night, despite being encouraged to stay. Something about being home, in your own bed, is so comforting.
We spent the evening playing together. It was so bizarre to me that I hurt to look at Jasper, but there he was, crawling around and laughing like nothing happened. Amazing.
Wednesday was the same. Big smiles, laughs. Except for medication time.
Thursday we headed back up to Hopkins. The surgeon said she was concerned about the amount of swelling he had. She also mentioned his eyes didn't look as they should. That was pretty disappointing. We thought we wouldn't know the complete results for a month.
We are scheduled to go back in a week to explore our options- starting with patching again, moving on to special glasses, and then, a possible second surgery the end of January. We are praying he won't need that second surgery for many reasons- mainly because each surgery has a lower success rate.
He's looking so much better now, just traces of a bruise.

I saw Jasper from a distance on Sunday. He looks GREAT! Amazing how just straightening eyes can change an appearance so much! He was adorable before but now I think there is no denying that he is Mason's brother!
